 3-11-2024 Hello to my AARP Community, Hope you anticipates the Eyes of Spring. Missed another Snowy Winter! We onlyhad Conversational Snow. I miss the seasons of winter. Not ice but enjoy snow.Let me tell you about six (6) years ago when I made a Reservation on Southwest Airlines to go to my Sister’s Funeral. Her children decided not to have the Funeral,but a Cremation. I immediately called ( less than 10 min.) to cancel. The Fee wasalready taken from my Credit Card. I have tried to contact everyone from Southwest and my Credit Card. I contacted the COO and COE from both. I have had two (2) Attorneys to contact both of the Companies heads. No results. By the Way, I repaid the Credit Card since I have been a Customer for years. No results!Got a letter from Southwest explaining that they sent my Refund back to theCredit Card. Therefore, the Credit Card was paid TWICE! What is a RetiredPerson to do? Now I have to pay another Lawyer and Court Fees. I would ra

Soul-mates for 55 Years For two weeks now, I have had discomfort wearing shoes: I developed a massive, gooey blister firmly attached to my big left toe until an urgent care doctor painstakingly removed the uninvited protuberance.Now I take my daily walks on the 12th floor rug espanse where I can safely wear sandals or slipper socks. I have not seen anyone during my random half-hour jaunts across the corridor, but I rarely get bored because when I walk unhindered, I fondly think of all of the medicating and bandaging that my wife has lovingly done to my distraught toe, never mind the anticoagulant drug that she faithfully injects into my pockets of fatty lower-torso tissue day and night.I am grateful and feel blessed because of my wife’s devotion to my care. I was born in Texas, lived there (with a year out in Florida & one in Ohio) until I was 15, then moved to California, where I went to high school and started work in the title insurance world after working in grocery stores from 14 to 18. Drafted at age 23, spent most of my two years at Fort Ord after MP school in Georgia. I eventually went to college, majored in English Lit and started writing poetry, still do that today. Moved to Oregon many years ago and would not want to live anywhere else. I worked in the title business for what seems like a lifetime and am enjoying retirement here in Oregon with my wife. I read a lot, like jazz and oldies, good movies and watch a lot of English & Aussie crime shows.

Celia Will Always Be With MeWhen I got into the elevator at the medical lab the other day, I met two extremely frail elderly women each huddled and bundled in a wheelchair and both accompanied by caretakers. As we all began to chitchat (the elevator is the slowest one I have ever encountered), I found out that the invalids were 98 years old. I congratulated them for their longevity, but I did not want to converse any more with them because they seemed so pitiful.When I left the elevator, I reflected on Celia, our “adopted” mum who recently died at 101 years old. My wife and I had routinely spent quality custodial time with Celia, a British woman who was about the same age as the forlorn-looking women in the wheelchairs. But what a difference! Celia, regardless of her multiple ailments, was engaging and energetic, still able (at age 100) to revel in the birthday bash her son had provided for her at the Waikiki Elks Club.Celia used to spend hours with me on Sundays, reminiscing about her
