SHEETZ GIFT CARDS "INVALID"

My wife and I each purchased $5 Sheetz Gift Cards in December 2025 with our AARP points. We tried to use them last week at a local Sheetz only to be embarrassed by finding that the 2 gift cards were "INVALID". The clerk tried to enter the numbers manually but they still came up as "INVALID". The check out line was forming behind us so we felt like IDIOTS! I paid our bill with cash. When we arrived home, I attempted to check the balance on the cards on the Sheetz website, but ONCE AGAIN, the cards came up as "INVALID" numbers. THANKS FOR NOTHING AARP! I'm wondering how many of our other gift cards purchased on the AARP SITE are also "INVALID"!!!

      I would guess similar things have happened to other users for selected things. Five Guys, Sonic, and probably a few vendors. I later learned some cards can only be used in apps. And those cards without QR or Barcodes, please explain why they are not showing. 

       

      In my opinion, this whole gift card craze seems like a scheme, but thankfully most times they seem to work as expected. 

       

      AI says :Americans are sitting on an estimated $27 billion in unspent gift cards, vouchers, and store credits. On a personal level, the average adult holds about $244 in unredeemed gift card balances. 

       
      Check State Unclaimed Property Databases. If a gift card remains unused and forgotten for a certain number of years (often 3 to 5, depending on the state), retailers are legally obligated to turn the unredeemed funds over to the state as "unclaimed property".
       

      Federal law dictates that gift cards cannot expire for at least five years, but it does not mandate cash-out options. Instead, 15 states and Puerto Rico require retailers to refund small remaining gift card balances as cash.


      State-specific laws determine when you can convert a remaining card balance into cash at the register: California: Balances under $15 can be cashed out.
      Colorado, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Montana, Washington, New Jersey, Oregon, Puerto Rico: Balances under $5 can be cashed out.

       

      Rhode Island, Vermont: Balances under 99 cents can be cashed out.
